Welcome to ARSA

The Asian Rural Sociological Association (ARSA) is a member of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and the International Rural Sociology Association (IRSA).

Our goal is to bring about Asian perspective in the field of Rural Sociology.

Our missions are to cultivate the development of rural sociology as a science, extend the possible application of results of scientific inquiry to the improvement of the quality of rural life, and exchange and generate meaningful scientific findings for the rural development of Asia.

Global and domestic aspects of our societies are always fluid and developing. Ever-changing or entirely new problems continuously come to the fore in our field. We as rural sociologists struggle against these emerging challenges by creating strong relationships and furthering our collaborative effort.

The new rural sociology rediscovers the relationship of agriculture and rurality that these are part of the whole social system evident in how farming, a practice in agriculture, is related to other sectors of society and it differs in terms of its organization in the industries mostly found in urban areas especially on its relation or closeness to nature.
