From Challenges to Prosperous Future in Rural Asia
The fifth ARSA International Conference was held in National University of Laos on September 2-5, 2014 with the theme “From Challenges to Prosperous Future in Rural Asia”. Its sub themes revolve around disaster management and resilience in rural Asia, changes in rural policy in Asia, the making and unmaking of “Green Revolution” from Asian and African perspectives, future of Asian rural society, harnessing social capital for community development, pathways for sustainable development, enhancing natural capital via effective farming systems approaches, building community resilience, and structures and processes shaping societal development. It was spearheaded by Professor Koichi Ikegami of Kinki University, Japan. It was attended by 150 participants from various countries.
